Now, that 15-minute window has shrunk to five minutes, both for in-person and phone or video interviews, Hyman says. Don't panic if you're late to a job interview — Hyman says you can still recover and win over the person you're speaking to with a quick, genuine apology. But you don't need to launch into a lengthy explanation about why you were late either, Hyman adds. Instead, he recommends a brief, sincere apology along the lines of: "I'm really sorry I'm late, something came up, but I value your time and I'm very interested in this opportunity. 7 job interview phrases you should never use—what to say instead

"Something very strange has happened" in the economy that is preventing a recession, Societe Generale said. The bank highlighted that as the Fed raised interest rates over the past year, corporate net interest payments actually fell. According to Societe Generale, "something very strange has happened" that explains why a US recession has been delayed, and it has to do with some timely moves made by corporations. The bank highlighted that going back to at least 1975, corporate net interest payments would rise as the Fed raised interest rates. "Normally when interest rates rise, so too do net debt payments, squeezing profit margins and slowing the economy.

Deutsche has a troubled history with regulators and prosecutors. The bank also paid a $150 million fine to a New York bank regulator in 2020, partly over its banking relationship with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The Fed orders from 2015 and 2017 stemmed from Deutsche’s relationship with the Estonian branch of Danske Bank, which has also run afoul of the authorities. Bank regulators had found that in its dealings with Danske Bank, Deutsche did not properly monitor transactions involving high-risk customers. Last year, Danske, the largest bank in Denmark, pleaded guilty to charges arising from a long-running money-laundering investigation.

A company in China fired an employee after he had to take toilet breaks of up to 6 hours, per Laodong Daily. The employee underwent surgery for an anorectal issue in December 2014 but was still in pain. Wang then started spending three to six hours in the toilet every day from July 2015, according to state-linked Laodong Daily, which focuses on labor-related news. Some companies in China have come under scrutiny for cracking down on toilet breaks, per South China Morning Post in a Thursday report. In 2021, a tech company in southern China angered employees by fining those who use the toilet more than once a day, per SCMP.

In some cases, the apparent escalation of company pushback has coincided with a slowing down of the union campaigns. At Starbucks, filings for union elections fell below 10 in August, from about 70 five months earlier, and no Apple store has filed for a union election since November. And in advance of a recent union election at an REI near Cleveland, management sought to exclude certain categories of workers from voting, according to the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. It said the chain, a co-op that sells recreational gear, had made no such challenge in two previous elections, in which workers voted to unionize. (The union said the company backed down after workers at the Cleveland-area store walked out, and the store voted to unionize in March.)

Frank Ocean will not perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this weekend because of a leg injury, a representative for the singer-songwriter said Wednesday, noting that the injury had prevented his performance there last Sunday from going on as planned. Later on, reports emerged that the set had been abruptly reconfigured ahead of the nighttime performance. The statement from Ocean’s representative, Anna Meacham, said that he had suffered a leg injury on the festival grounds days before his first scheduled performance, leading to the preshow scramble. “Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity,” the statement said. “On doctor’s advice, Frank Ocean is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”
"We share Congresswoman Sewell's view that the use of child labor is unacceptable," Hyundai said. Sewell's comments are the first from a high-ranking Alabama official on child labor problems in Hyundai's supply chain. The new actions by Hyundai and its discussions with regulators and lawmakers come after Reuters documented child labor in various Alabama auto plants making parts for Hyundai or Kia. The child labor reports have put a spotlight on Hyundai's growing operations in the United States. Regulatory fines for child labor, by contrast, can be relatively small.

A report from data analytics firm Trilliant Health found that nationally, prescriptions for Adderall among people ages 22 to 44 increased 15% between 2020 and 2021. “I’ve had patients call 10,15, 20 pharmacies in order to get their medication,” Goodman said. Clara is headed to her doctor to seek an alternative medication until Adderall is back in stock. It took five days for his pharmacy to fill his prescription in late October, and those days took a toll. Goodman strongly warns against this, offering a reminder that not only is selling your own prescription medication a felony, so is sharing it with others.
And no wonder — the economy is giving Americans less and less reason for optimism. The US housing market isn't just slowing down, it's in the early stages of a major correction. According to the latest consumer confidence report, Americans are feeling downbeat across the board. In Franco's words: "The Expectations Index is still lingering below a reading of 80 — a level associated with recession — suggesting recession risks appear to be rising." Here are the latest market moves.
It’s Monday, and you’re running late. You strap your Meta Quest Pro on your head, you squeeze in around the virtual wood conference table and you smirk at your boss, who isn’t pleased with your tardiness. He rolls his eyes, but you don’t take him seriously because, well, he looks like a levitating Woody from “Toy Story,” except with no cowboy hat…or legs. When the meeting is over, you’re back in your real home office, but three giant virtual computer monitors hover in front of you. On the wall hangs a virtual whiteboard with a motivational quote: TEAMWORK!
By historical standards, Gen X should be in charge of the US by now. Think of them as the godparents of the "Xennials" — those born in the late 1970s or early 1980s who aren't fully Gen X or millennial. No matter whether you deny the 61-year-old Obama is a boomer, Gen X is starting to get up there in age. Michael Ciaglo-Pool/Getty ImagesWhat's the US missing without a Gen X president? "It's like seeing a ghost that doesn't appear," she said of any expectation the presidency would just suddenly open up for Gen X.
